A violent impact on Sunday afternoon interrupted the day at kilometer 386 of Autovía 2, near Mar del Plata, leaving three injured, one of them in critical condition. According to Noticias Argentinas, a train traveling from Plaza Constitución to Mar del Plata collided with a car near the Aquasol water park. The train operator confirmed that neither the passengers nor the crew were injured, but the train was stopped for several hours for standard investigations. The accident occurred during a period of high traffic due to the tourist exchange in the second half of January. The accident caused panic among tourists and a massive deployment of emergency services. The Peugeot 206 involved had three occupants: a 40-year-old man, a 17-year-old teenager, and a 23-year-old young man. The latter was rescued from the wreckage and urgently taken to the HIGA hospital with serious polytrauma. His prognosis is guarded. The other two occupants suffered various injuries but are out of danger. Firefighters, the Buenos Aires Police, the Scientific Police, and Vialidad (with Aubasa and Civil Defense personnel) worked at the scene. After the vehicle remains were removed and the investigations were completed, traffic on the highway and the railway service were restored. However, Road Safety authorities renewed the call for prudence, reminding that during the high season the frequency of trains to the Atlantic Coast increases significantly, which requires double attention at all level crossings.
